Amazingly China’s home furnishings market is growing quite well although some analysts have pointed out that the DIY (Do It Yourself) culture is not present yet in China. But is Ikea in China doing well?

The answer is YES. The reason is that labor costs are relatively low therefore hiring someone to do the work than to do it themselves is a price homeowners are willing to pay. Local culture in China has to be understood and apparently there are some DIYfurniture companies made the same mistake not to adapt to the local culture of China and the understanding the market.

Fifteen years ago, owning a house in China has gone from almost zero to approximately 65 – 70 percent. The learning curve how to decorate the Chinese home from western influence can be very step. This is why IKEA is doing very well in China. The models of bedrooms, kitchen, dining rooms all fitted together give the people of China free inspiration how to furnish their home, especially for young couples.

IKEA store in Shanghai is a 350,000-square-foot building offering over six thousand of products filled with customers ready to buy the latest stylish furniture & household appliances for their new homes.

Since the Chinese consumer market is young and still emerging, where thousands of new home owners are added every month, companies cannot ignore the potential of this huge market. IKEA plans to increase the number of stores from current eight to fifteen by year 2015. In a country

A massive fire on Saturday the 5th of February 2011 completely burned down IKEA Swedish furniture store in Netanya (Isreal) near Poleg junction on the coastal road, destroying all the merchandised inside and the complete building as well. The fire started in the early morning of Saturday on the east section of the building; luckily no one was in the building at the time of the accident.

The fire was caused by a short circuit conclusion from the police investigation thus excluding the arson theory. It was caused by water entering the electrical systems. The Fire services of Netanya is still investigation the reason why the fire detention system was unable to prevent such an unfortunate disaster. There are plans to rebuild and reopen the store within one year.

India’s overall sales revenue in 2010 was approximately USD 370 billion and it forecasts salesfigures will will grow to USD 680 billion by 2014 according to Business Monitor International, a London research firm.

The Swedish home affordable stylist retailer Ikea earned next to nothing in terms of money in India as Indian government would not lift the caps or limits on foreign direct investment. Plans to open stores across the country was scrapped

The newly appointed IKEA chief executive Mikael Ohlsson mentioned at a conference that he is keen to do business in India and is planning to increase the amount of goods purchased in India in the next four years to a staggering 1.2 – 1.4 Billion USD .

This new initiative will give Ikea chief executive hopes to enter the retail market however foreign investors require partnership deals to a maximum of 49% with local companies to be able to open store throughout India. For Ikea it is a requirement where local companies may find hard to accept due to the fact that it may take years to get back money from their investment.

According to these rumors, the Ikea Leko car, which is prepared by the Swedish company, is environment friendly, practical, and accessible for everybody. The malicious people are wondering if the car will be already assembled or the buyer can assembly it at home, in the usual Ikea way. The Ikea Leko car promises to be very responsible regarding the pollution problem and also to have a cheap price which sounds perfect.

The name of the foundation is the Stichting INGKA, the first name meaning ‘foundation’ in Dutch and the later being a combination of the owner` s two names. It was founded in 1982 and its goal is to support and to promote the innovation in areas as the interior design and architecture. But the owner wants the foundation to be involved in more social causes and this is why he asked the Dutch court to allow the foundation to donate money for social problems.
