Is IKEA Thriving in China?
Amazingly China’s home furnishings market is growing quite well although some analysts have pointed out that the DIY (Do It Yourself) culture is not present yet in China. But is Ikea in China doing well?
The answer is YES. The reason is that labor costs are relatively low therefore hiring someone to do the work than to do it themselves is a price homeowners are willing to pay. Local culture in China has to be understood and apparently there are some DIYfurniture companies made the same mistake not to adapt to the local culture of China and the understanding the market.
Fifteen years ago, owning a house in China has gone from almost zero to approximately 65 – 70 percent. The learning curve how to decorate the Chinese home from western influence can be very step. IKEA store in Netanya burns down by short circuit
A massive fire on Saturday the 5th of February 2011 completely burned down IKEA Swedish furniture store in Netanya (Isreal) near Poleg junction on the coastal road, destroying all the merchandised inside and the complete building as well. The fire started in the early morning of Saturday on the east section of the building; luckily no one was in the building at the time of the accident.
The fire was caused by a short circuit conclusion from the police investigation thus excluding the arson theory. It was caused by water entering the electrical systems. The Fire services of Netanya is still investigation the reason why the fire detention system was unable to prevent such an unfortunate disaster.There are plans to rebuild and reopen the store within one year.
